Sometimes I’m a writer; sometimes I’m a CPA; sometimes I’m a CPA talking to writers.
Sometimes I’m an artist; sometimes I’m a finance nerd; sometimes I’m a finance nerd teaching finance to artists.
Sometimes the contradictions collide beautifully. And they did indeed on a muggy June night I spent at the June Paging Columbus event, hosted by my favorite poet and CCAD colleague, Hannah Stephenson. We talked about numbers; we talked about art. We talked about writing, and we talked about goals all at OSU’s Urban Art Space.
The conversation meandered delightfully, as it often does when brilliant minds share unique perspectives and ideas. We spent quite a bit of time talking about goals, and I illustrated the Goal Worksheet from Arts & Numbers with what I thought was a perfect (if slightly ridiculous) goal: To go to space.
It’s a bit of a contradiction, for an artist, a mother, and of course a CPA, but what are goals if not interesting expressions of our inner selves?
Watch the excerpt below (courtesy of Paging Columbus) to hear my take on making the goal specific, measurable, time-bound and quantified.
P.S. Did you see the coverage of this event in Columbus Alive? Thanks to Matthew Lovett for the great write-up!
