A huge thanks to GuideStar for publishing my article on tips for avoiding financial fraud in the non-profit world this month!

This article was prompted by news out of Atlanta that the perpetrator of an embezzlement scheme (valued somewhere between $1.1 and $1.438 million) at the Woodrfuff Arts Center last fall plead guilty. The scheme was originally reported in November and speculation about the perpetrator’s identity and the Center’s handling of the event have prompted much discussion online.

I’m thrilled the perpetrator was brought to justice, and I hope non-profits across the country use this unfortunate event as an excuse to think about their own control environments, auditor relationships, and board reporting.

Happy reading!
