Hooray! You’ve filed your taxes, you’ve probably made your first quarterly payment for 2018, and now you can ignore your financial health until next year, right? Not so much. Last week, the Times published an article called, “Why You Need a Financial Advisor, Even If You’re Not Rich.” And, as you would expect, the article listed all sorts of reasons why it helps to have advice on financial matters. We agree with everything they said. And now is the perfect time to focus on your own financial wellness, especially if you aren’t distracted by deadline-focused tasks (taxes, grant deadlines). Now is a good time for growth, both for your financial wellness and for your community relationships. To that end, here are a few things to take care of this month.

  • Reconnect with your community. You’ve been busy lately (and you’ll be busy again soon). But now, with nicer weather and longer daylight hours, make sure to take some time to reconnect with your community, whether that is attending a festival, reaching out to friends and mentors, or seeing someone’s show. You’ll be very glad you did.

  • Update your record keeping system. What changes do you want to make to your system in 2018? Did last year’s system work for you as you filed your taxes? Is there a better system you’d rather use? Are there changes to categories you want to track for 2018? Now is a great time to revisit those tweaks, while they are fresh in your mind.

  • Plan your time. Can you believe it is already May? Take a bit of time this month to plan out what your time will look like for the rest of the year. Are there administrative tasks you want to make sure to accomplish? Are there other things you want to make sure to do? Put them on your calendar now. It will be December before you know it.

  • Consider your financial wellness. You can certainly check in with your budget… But try to think a bit more holistically than that as well. How are you feeling about your financial knowledge? What about the actions you take? What about the results you measure? If you’re feeling a bit uncertain in any of those areas, it may be time for growth.

Financial Wellness

How do you know if you are financially healthy? It’s the right mix of knowledge, action, and results in a few key financial areas, including spending, earning, managing debt, protecting what matters to you, and connecting money to your real, creative life. Want to talk more about these? We’re here when you want to chat…

We hope you enjoy this month’s tips on wellness and community. We’re excited to hear about your own financial wellness growth this month… And beyond.

Until next month, all the best with your financial empowerment…
