Join Elaine in Chicago on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from noon until 2:00 p.m. for her session, “Financial Basics for Entrepreneurial Artists.” (Bring a big coat, because it is Chicago. In February.)

The workshop is part of the College Art Association’s annual conference at the Hilton Chicago, and the line-up of presentations, poster discussions, facilitators, and vendors suggests this conference will be as incredible as it sounds. This is the 102nd CAA conference and it is “the world’s best-attended international art conference,” so you’ll meet pretty fantastic participants in addition to learning a bit from the sessions.

Plus, while you’re in Chicago, you’ll have access to some of the country’s best architecture and an incredible array of public art. The session’s abstract is below… See you there!

Abstract

Whether we want to or not, artists navigate a unique world where entrepreneurial skills are increasing in importance. Although the importance of technical competence and authenticity in art cannot be understated, artists are discovering that technical competence and authenticity is no longer enough to build a sustainable career. Artists are increasingly craving information about business basics, including planning, budgeting, managing cash, record keeping and reporting, but often the information isn’t relevant to a creative community.

Led by Elaine Grogan Luttrull, Founder of Minerva Financial Arts and author of Arts & Numbers (Agate B2, 2013), this session will present relevant, useful information on goal-setting, budgeting, and cash flow management in a format tailored to artists and creative entrepreneurs. It will include hands-on activities the participants may adopt for their own professional practices and an opportunity to engage with the instructor during a question and answer session.

Arts & Numbers

You don’t have to do this alone. Arts & Numbers is a comprehensive financial guide for creative individuals… and anyone else with a passion for something other than accounting and finance. This book aims to provide basic information on finance and financial matters for creative entrepreneurs to take ownership of their financial situations, thus ensuring their long-term success, creative and otherwise.

Written in short story form with fictional anecdotes supporting the financial advice, Arts & Numbers promises to be an easy and useful read for creative entrepreneurs at any stage.
