Understanding a Board Member’s Financial Responsibilities

As part of its ongoing volunteer-support programming, the Arts & Business Council of New York offered a capacity building program, meant to educate potential board members about their responsibilities to an organization. The program covered a range of topics over a 10-week period, and Elaine led the finance session. She distilled, in plain English, a board member’s fiscal, legal, and moral responsibilities to an organization in a financial context.
