Talking Taxes at SVA

February, 2020
School of Visual Arts (Map)

Elaine will visit the creative individuals at New York’s School of Visual Arts on February 19 to talk about taxes — including changes to sales tax rules that may affect whether or not they have to collect sales tax when they sell work to other states.

About the Workshop

If it is true that the only certain things in life are death and taxes, this workshop will make navigating one of those things considerably easier. We’ll review federal and state income tax basics for creative individuals (including how the tax landscape changes based on the artist’s entity type choice), and discuss common deductions claimed by creative entrepreneurs. We’ll also review the sales tax requirements for the state of Ohio, plus the obligation to investigate the laws in other states where artists have sales, show work, or visit.
